Awards in 2007

  1. The 2007 Robert C. Jeffrey College Benefactor Award presented by The University of Texas at Austin College of Communication to individuals who have gone out of their way to support the college's faculty and students.
  2. 2007 Communicator of the Year Award presented by the Texas Speech and Communication Association for her dedication to advancing excellence in speech communication education.
  3. Child Advocate Award presented by the Voices for Children of San Antonio to Senator Judith Zaffirini for her service to the children of Bexar County and Texas.
  4. Award of Appreciation presented by City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas and City Council Members for her outstanding work and support during the 80th legislative session.
  5. Resolution honoring state Senator Judith Zaffirini presented by the Texas Library Association for her continued leadership in supporting all Texas libraries, for being an outstanding champion and a longstanding leader in supporting Texas academic, public and school libraries. The resolution also recognizes that Senator Zaffirini, as vice chair of the Senate Finance committee, worked tirelessly to secure additional resources for Texas libraries and sponsored riders to secure $2.5 million per year for K-12 school library online resources and $500,000 per year for the TexShare program.
  6. Appreciation Plaque presented by the Texas Deer Association to Senator Judith Zaffirini for her loyal friendship and continued support.
  7. Proclamation of the San Antonio Water System Board of Trustees honoring Senator Judith Zaffirini for the critical leadership role she plays in establishing sound water policy for the community and State and for the specific historic efforts made during the 80th legislative session to secure San Antonio's water supply.
  8. Appreciation Plaque presented by the Carrizo Springs Consolidated Independent School District to Senator Judith Zaffirini in appreciation for supporting the school district.
  9. Appreciation Plaque presented by the Carrizo Springs Housing Authority to Senator Judith Zaffirini, author of Senate Bills 23 and 76, which created the Texas School Readiness Certification System, in grateful appreciation for participating in the education of the children of Dimmit, Zavala, Maverick, La Salle and Frio Counties.

  11. 2007 People's Choice Award from the Texas Association for Home Care. The award highlights the Texas Legislative/United States Congressional Representative or Senator whose record reflects defense for the constituent's right to receive, at reasonable cost, health and social services that allow them to remain in their own homes.
  12. 2007 Legislative Champion Award from the Career Colleges and Schools of Texas for strong support of the goals and objectives of the private, post-secondary education community.

Awards in 2006

  1. Mirabeau B. Lamar medal from the Association of Texas Colleges and Universities for exceptional service to Texas higher education, beyond service to a single institution.
  2. “Excellence in Patient Advocacy” award from the Texas Dental Association for leadership in helping dentists achieve their legislative goals. Three senators and one representative were selected unanimously by TDA’s House of Delegates to receive this inaugural award.
  3. "Our Founding Leader in Health Education," Mid Rio Grande Border Area Health Education Center (AHEC), recognizing countless legislative contributions benefitting AHEC programs as well as health and human services and education programs throughout AHEC’s 38-county region.
  4. Named an Honorary Nun, “Sister Judith,” by the Sisters of Mercy and Mercy Ministries of Laredo for her support of health and welfare legislation, personal commitment to its expansion and provision to all people, and collaborative efforts dedicated toward improving and enhancing health and human services for all Texas families.
